KIEV, Nov. 17 – Ukraine cut electricity exports by 51.8% or 3.424 billion kWh year-over-year in January-October, to 3.191 billion kWh, the Fuel and Energy Ministry announced.
The halving of supplies is mainly linked to a decision made in late 2008 to replace Ukrainian electricity on the domestic market with electricity generated at the Moldavskaya GRES power plant in Transdnestria, the ministry said.
Moldova, which accounted for over a third of Ukraine's electricity exports in 2008, in January-October 2009 imported 5.5 million kWh, while year-over-year the indicator was 2.477 billion kWh.
