KIEV, Feb. 15 ??“ President Viktor Yushchenko on Thursday backed plans for setting up a system for alternative to Russian oil supplies in Eastern Europe by involving terminals and pipelines in Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus.

The plan was recently discussed between Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney in Washington, a month after Russia had briefly suspended oil shipments via Belarus to most of Europe.
