KYIV, Nov 18 - Ukraine may face shortage of peak power generating capacity without new investments that are aimed at stabilizing the power system during peak hours, Ukrenergo power grid said Wednesday.
The shortage may reach up to 2.5 GW in 2025 and may further increase to 9 GW in 2031, Ukrenergo said.
The peak power plants are usually fossil fuel-burning power plants that must switch on very quickly to compensate for rapid increase in power consumption during peak hours. Without them, the country’s power system would fail and trigger massive blackout.
