KIEV, Aug. 1 ??“ The government plans to step up purchases of grain from farmers in order to prevent a major price slump that traditionally occurs during grain harvesting and inflicts financial losses on farmers.

The government plans to buy 5.5 million tons of grain though different channels, up from about 4 million tons that had been earlier expected, according to the latest Cabinet resolution.
