President Viktor Yushchenko ordered the government to ensure smooth gas transit to Europe and smooth gas supplies for Ukrainian consumers at a fixed price, Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Secretary Raisa Bohatyriova said. She stressed that the government needs to realize the consequences of "any ill-thought out action without forming a consolidated position concerning the reform of the gas market."
