KYIV, Jan 11 - The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine has begun analysis of materials from Energoatom on the use of Westinghouse fuel for VVER-440 at Rivne nuclear power plant (NPP), announced for 2024, acting head of the inspectorate Oleh Korikov said.
"The Rivne NPP design provides for a specific fuel (Russian TVEL), and if we change it, then this is modification. According to the modification regulation, a conceptual solution has been prepared that substantiates the safety of introducing an alternative nuclear fuel. It was received by the regulator, and we are analyzing it, conducting its expertise in terms of nuclear and radiation safety," Korikov said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
