Ukrainian starch producers struggle to compete with Belarus imports
Journal Staff Report

KYIV, Dec 29 Private company Vimal and Starch Goods Orane LLC are two of the six existing starch factories in Ukraine that started work in 2020, while the rest are in a pre-default state or completely bankrupt and have huge not sold stocks of products manufactured in 2019- 2020 marketing year (MY), said director of Vimal Serhiy Samonenko.

"In the period from 2017 to 2020, imports from Belarus increased almost 10 times - from 877 tons to 7,100 tons. Part of imported products in Ukraine reached 50%. It is 30% cheaper than Ukrainian goods. We are losing in the dumping war because of the high cost of production and purchase prices for raw materials," he said.
