KYIV, Dec 3 – A bill was submitted to Parliament proposing to provide crypto currency of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) with legal tender status, allowing the central bank to issue it, NBU Governor Kyrylo Shevchenko said.
The bill was registered on November 12 by the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, headed by Danylo Hetmantsev.
"Legislative imposition on central banks of the functions of issuing their own digital currencies and granting the central bank's digital currency the status of legal tender (...). The NBU (...) has already initiated such amendments to the legislation. The definition of 'digital money of the National Bank' and the NBU's right to their issue is included in bill 4364 on payment services," he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday evening.
