NBU blames 2008 inflation on government’s social spending policies
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, May 4 – The National Bank of Ukraine said the country’s skyrocketing inflation this year was mostly caused by the government’s rampant social spending, which had aggravated the rising costs of fuel and food.

The criticism comes as the NBU has been considering whether to let the hryvnia gain value against the U.S. dollar - a move the government has been pushing for - to slow down the price hike.
