Ukraine, U.S., Russia may hold talks on Feb 1
Journal Staff Report

KYIV, Jan 27 – A new meeting of Ukrainian, U.S. and Russian negotiating teams is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, February 1, and Ukraine will be maximally prepared for the talks, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday.

“Preliminarily, we spoke about the teams meeting once again on Sunday. It would be good if it were possible to accelerate this meeting. Ukraine will be maximally prepared on all issues that must be discussed and agreed,” Zelenskyy said in his evening address.

The president stressed that Ukraine has always stood and will continue to stand for peace, while the war persists solely because of Russia.

“Real results from diplomacy are needed. There should be no impression that the Russians are using the negotiation process with a very cynical and harsh aim – to delay new pressure measures against Russia that could be effective. And pressure is needed,” Zelenskyy said.

He noted that the Ukrainian delegation had reported back following trilateral talks held in the United Arab Emirates, adding that preparations are under way this week for new three-way meetings.

Representatives of Ukraine, the United States and Russia held trilateral negotiations in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on Friday and Saturday, January 23–24.

Zelenskyy said the talks covered a wide range of key issues, primarily military matters necessary to end the war, as well as complex political questions that remain unresolved.

“We analysed the key positions of the sides. I outlined the framework for further diplomatic work. We are preparing for new trilateral meetings this week,” he wrote earlier on Telegram.

According to Ukrainian officials, the Russian delegation included representatives of military intelligence and the armed forces. The U.S. side was represented by Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Josh Gruenbaum, General Daniel Driscoll and General Alex Grynkewich. Ukraine’s delegation included Presidential Office head Kyrylo Budanov, first deputy head of the office Serhiy Kyslytsia, parliamentary faction leader Davyd Arakhamia and National Security and Defence Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
