KIEV, Oct. 10 - President Viktor Yushchenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday discussed plans for resuming talks over creation of a trilateral German-Ukrainian-Russian joint venture to operate natural gas pipelines in Ukraine.

The project was originally mooted in June 2002, but was later postponed when Russia persuaded Ukraine to create a 50-50 joint venture without German companies.
