KIEV, Oct. 6 ??“ President Viktor Yushchenko on Friday called for urgent steps to reduce inflation after Ukraine??™s consumer prices had skyrocketed in September dashing the government??™s hopes of keeping inflation at 8.7% this year.

Ukraine??™s inflation was reported at 2% in September, the fastest monthly growth this year, with cumulative level of inflation reaching 5.9% in January through September, according to the central bank.
