Former PM pays surprise Moscow visit

Ukraine has support of U.S. to reform energy sector, integrate with Europe
KYIV, Aug 25 – Ukraine has the support of the United States in the reform of the energy sector, the integration of the Ukrainian and European power systems, as well as in the process of decarbonization of the Ukrainian energy, Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko said following a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.

Ukraine needs to work hard for 20 years to become EU member: Estonian prez
KYIV, Aug 25 – In order to become a full member of the European Union, Ukraine will have to work hard for 20 years, said Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid.
In an interview with European Truth, the politician stated that neither Ukraine, nor Georgia, nor Moldova still meet the requirements for membership in the European Union.

Standards being drawn up to harmonize Ukrainian and European regs
KIEV, Aug. 26 – A total of 5,000 standards are to be drawn up and approved by 2020 to harmonize the Ukrainian standard system with the European one.
This is stipulated in the technical regulation system development strategy for the period until 2020 approved by cabinet resolution No. 844 of August 19. |
We'll have enough gas for winter without Russia, energy minister says
KIEV, Aug. 26 - Ukraine will be able to store a comfortable level of natural gas reserves even without supplies of Russian gas, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said Wednesday.
The comments come in contrast with Demrchyshyn’s statements earlier this month that Ukraine will need to resume Russian gas imports in order to survive the winter. |
Kiev and rebels agree to shore up truce
MINSK, Aug. 26 - Ukraine and pro-Russian separatists, in a gesture to shore up a tenuous ceasefire, agreed on Wednesday to strive for an end to all truce violations from next Tuesday, the OSCE and rebel representatives said, Reuters reported. |
