Luhanskteplovoz switches back to five-day work week, citing growth

KIEV, Aug. 16 – Luhanskteplovoz, the owner of which is Russia's Transmashholding, switched earlier this month from the four-day work week it has had since 2010 to five days.

KIEV, Aug. 17 – South Korea’s LG International has filed a claim against a Ukrainian polyethylene tube producer – Ukrpolymerconstruction Trade House LLC - to collect UAH 967.8 million from the Ukrainian company, international law firm Integrites reported.


Antimonopoly Committee approves Metinvest acquisition of Illich-Steel

KIEV, Aug. 18 – Ukraine's Antimonopoly Committee has permitted Metinvest B.V. (the Netherlands), a holding company of Ukraine's largest metallurgical Metinvest holding, to acquire public joint-stock company Mariupol-based Illich steel mill and private joint-stock company Illich-Steel.


GDP growth this year could top government forecast, says NBU official

KIEV, Aug. 18 – Ukraine's GDP growth in 2010 could be over 4%, while the official cabinet forecast says that the country's economic growth would be 3.7% this year, Ihor Shumylo, the executive director for economic issues at the NBU, said at a briefing on Wednesday.


Share of bad loans in Ukraine bank portfolios up to 11.5% in July

KIEV, Aug. 19 - The share of bad loans in the portfolios of Ukrainian banks grew by 0.7 percentage points in July, to 11.5%, the National Bank of Ukraine reported.


Ukraine electricity output down 15.3% through the end of last month

KIEV, Aug. 17 - Ukraine reduced electricity output 15.3%, to 97.476 billion kilowatt-hours in January-July compared to the same period of 2008, the Fuel and Energy Ministry announed.

Ukraine's nuclear power plants (NPP) reduced electricity output 11.8% to 47.499 billion kWh in the seven months, thermal power plants (TPP) and combined heat and power plants (CHP) reduced output 21.4% to 38.401 billion kWh.


Ukraine to announce position on Naftogaz restructuring this week

KIEV, Aug, 19 - Ukraine will announce its position on the possible restructuring of the debt of national oil and gas producer Naftogaz Ukrayiny by the end of this week, acting Finance Minister Ihor Umansky said.


Karpatnaftokhim installs 4 polymerization tanks at new PVC facility

KIEV, Aug. 19 – Karpatnaftokhim Ltd. (Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk region) has installed four polymerization tanks at a new PVC production facility, which is under construction now.

The polymerization tanks, which are one of the key compounds of the new facility, were installed on August 14-17.


Government to sell controlling stakes in all 14 power distributors

KIEV, Aug. 19 – The government plans to sell controlling stakes in all 14 power distributing companies before the end of the year, Dmytro Parfemenko, an acting head of the State Property Fund, said Wednesday.
