Kiev employees to lose pay because of protests, official says

KIEV, Dec. 24 – Public sector employees in Kiev and those of the Kyivpastrans enterprise will not receive salaries for the past two months, as the work of Kiev City Council is blocked, the council's secretary, Halyna Hereha, has said.

Azarov: Russians sending $12 billion at beginning of next year

KIEV, Dec. 25 - Prime Minister Mykola Azarov expects to receive $12 billion more as a loan from Russia at the beginning of 2014.

"We expect the next $12 billion at the beginning of next year," he said, while opening a session of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday.


Ukrzaliznytsia to spend UAH180 million to modernize facilities in 2014

KIEV, Dec. 25 – The State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) plans to spend UAH 180 million to modernize its energy facilities in 2014 and UAH 114 million for their repair, Vitaliy Maksymchuk, the head of the chief department for electrification and power supply at Ukrzaliznytsia, told reporters.


Privatization shortfall pushes UAH3 billion government borrowing

KIEV, Dec. 24 – The government has decided to increase the debt financing of the deficit of the national budget by UAH 3 billion due to the underperformance of the privatization target.


New law will tax nongovernmental organization membership fees

KIEV, Dec. 25 – The new law on nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), which takes effect from January 1, 2013, introduces a tax on profit received from membership fees, President of All-Ukrainian medical union Oleh Musiy said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.


Chornomorsky Shipbuilding Yard transfers 3.8 ton container vessel

KIEV, Dec. 25 – Chornomorsky Shipbuilding Yard has transferred the fifth hull of a 3.8 ton deadweight capacity universal container vessel under the CF3850 project built for Dutch Damen Shipyards Bergum, the shipyard reported on Monday.


Ukraine’s balance of payment deficit seen at $3 billion in 2012

KIEV, Dec. 22 – The National Bank of Ukraine forecasts the deficit of Ukraine's balance of payments in 2011 at up to $3 billion, according to NBU's First Vice Governor Yuriy Kolobov.


Turboatom signs $100 million deal with Russian nuclear power plant

KHARKIV, Dec. 22 – Turboatom, Ukraine’s maker of turbine equipment, signed a contract to produce and supply a turbine with the capacity of 1,100 megawatts with a condenser for reactor four of Rostov nuclear power plant, the company reported.


World Bank mulls new partnership strategy for Ukraine

KIEV, Dec. 22 – The Board of Directors of the World Bank may consider a new strategy of partnership with Ukraine in February or March of 2012, World Bank Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Martin Raiser said.
