Gas price increase will allow gas field investments, says official

KIEV, July 23 – The increase in gas prices charged to the public and heating companies will allow the investment of additional funds in the development of Ukrainian gas fields, and increase the volume of gas extracted, Fuel and Energy Minister Yuriy Boyko said at a briefing on Friday.

Ukraine to seek compromise with IMF on financing, NBU reports

KIEV, July 23 - Ukraine is ready to find a compromise for financing from the International Monetary Fund, the National Bank of Ukraine said on its web site.

"The compulsory request (letter of intention) has been sent by the Ukrainian government and the NBU, addressed to the IMF's directorship.

Economy ministry to participate in refrigerator/freezer import probe

KIEV, July 26 – The interagency commission for international trade has instructed the Economy Ministry, jointly with other Ukrainian executive bodies, to hold talks with the competent bodies of exporting countries under an investigation into imports of refrigerators and freezers to Ukraine irrespective of their country of origin, which was started in May.


Central bank reports 11% H1 increase in balance payments deficit

KIEV, July 24 – The National Bank of Ukraine reported that Ukraine's consolidated balance of payments deficit from January through June came to $7.288 billion, 11.1% up from January to May.


NBU could channel $2.8 billion into hryvnia support: advisor

KIEV, June 23 – The National Bank of Ukraine could channel $2.8 billion by the beginning of September into supporting the hryvnia, said Valeriy Lytvytsky, head of the group of advisors to the NBU governor.
