Journal Staff Report

YALTA, Nov. 20 - Ukraine will increase the fee it charges Russia for transit of its natural gas to the European Union to “market” level for the first time in January 2010, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said Friday.

“Starting January 1, 2010, Ukraine for the first time will get market price for transit of Russian gas to Europe,” Tymoshenko said at a press conference. “Naftogaz will get billions [of U.S. dollars] in extra revenue.”
