KIEV, Oct. 15 – The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in commodities January through August 2009 was $3.758 billion, less than one-third the same period last year ($12.583 billion), the State Statistics Committee said on Wednesday.
Exports of commodities in the first eight months of this year were estimated to be worth $23.750 billion, which was 50.6% of the January-August 2008 period, while imports of commodities in January through August 2009 totaled $27.508 billion, or 46.2% of the same period last year.
The State Statistics Committee says that the formation of the foreign trade deficit was influenced by various groups of commodities – gas, oil and fuel ('minus' $7.922 billion), pharmaceuticals ('minus' $1.113 billion), polymer and plastic materials ('minus' $1.073 billion).
