Turkmenistan balks at new gas pipeline championed by prime minister
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Jan. 30 Turkmenistan, which Ukraine hopes to become an alternative to Russia source of natural gas, on Wednesday issued a statement questioning the future of a gas pipeline suggested by Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Tymoshenko, while on a visit to Brussels this week, campaigned for political support for the construction of the pipeline bypassing Russia on the way to Ukraine and the European Union.
