KIEV, Jan. 24 – The State Savings Bank of Ukraine (Oschadbank)announced that from Jan. 8 through Jan. 21 registered 2.3 million citizens who have defaulted Soviet-era deposits, of which over 500,000 have already received compensation.
The bank said that the bank's board decided to pay additional refunds on Thursday, and on Friday and Saturday to receive applications from depositors.
Oschadbank on Jan. 22 received a second budget tranche of $100 million in 2008 to pay compensation to depositors, but no more than UAH1,000 to each depositor. Oschadbank in early January received the first budget tranche of $198.2 million in 2008 to pay compensation to depositors.
