KIEV, Jan. 14 – Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on Sunday defended her plan for massive repayment of Soviet-era failed bank deposits against allegations that the action may spur inflation in Ukraine.
The Tymoshenko government forecast 2008 inflation at below 10%, but some analysts said the payments of billions of hryvnias this year may undermine price stability and push inflation to 40%.
