KIEV, Jan. 12 ??“ President Viktor Yushchenko on Friday suspended the government??™s resolution appointing a former controversial police chief, Serhiy Popkov, as deputy internal affairs minister, Yushchenko??™s press service reported.
Popkov was accused of releasing live cartridges to police troops and ordering a crackdown on peaceful demonstrators during the Orange Revolution in November 2004. The order was aborted one hour later after the apparent involvement of senior army officers.
