KIEV, Nov. 14 ??“ Ukraine??™s deficit in trade with goods and commodities widened to more than $4 billion in January through September, up from $748 million a year ago, led by growing prices of energy imports.

The widening trade deficit puts downward pressure on the hryvnia, the national currency, and will probably force the National Bank of Ukraine to step up interventions to keep stability.
