KYIV, Dec 21 – Some 48% of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine should move towards joining the European Union, 13% are supporters of integration into the Eurasian Economic Union with the Russian Federation, Belarus and Kazakhstan, and 30% do not want to join any of the unions, according to the survey conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and released on Monday.
Supporters of European integration, according to the survey, are most in the west and in the center of the country (72% and 52%, respectively). In the south of Ukraine, European integration is supported by about the same amount as not joining any unions (36% and 33%, respectively), but rapprochement with the Russian Federation is supported by 23%. In the east, a relatively large majority of 40% do not support any alliances, while 24% and 26% of respondents are in favor of integration with the EU and the Russian Federation, respectively.
