Yushchenko’s loyalists seek canceling amendments as standoff persists

KIEV, Sept. 20 – A group of lawmakers loyal to President Viktor Yushchenko on Wednesday filed an appeal seeking to let the Constitutional Court review controversial constitutional amendments that had reduced presidential powers earlier this year.

The move is the first evidence suggesting that Yushchenko may have been considering revoking the amendments that had granted tremendous powers to the prime minister, but had left many questions unanswered.
