KYIV, Oct 15 - An increase in any tariffs for electricity in Ukraine would lead to a halt of chemical enterprises producing mineral fertilizers, which poses a threat to the country's food security, President of the Ukrainian Chemists Union Oleksiy Holubov said.
"We categorically oppose an increase in electricity tariffs in any way, whether it be generation, transmission or distribution of electricity. This will lead to a halt in the main capacities of chemical plants that produce mineral fertilizers. And this, in turn, will entail a shortage of fertilizers, crop failure and so on, up to the appearance of a threat to the food security of Ukraine," he stressed.
