LONDON, Sept. 12 ??“ Shares of JKX Oil & Gas, a small British-registered oil company operating in Ukraine, dropped on Tuesday after the company reported that its first well had failed to encounter hydrocarbons.

JKX Oil & Gas said it had to abandon the well at Zaplavskoye oil field, a development that will probably force the company to reinterpret its seismic data in the region.
