KYIV, June 26 - Russian gas transit shipments via Ukraine are important to the European Union's energy security, but it is necessary to start discussion over supplies after 2019, Maros Sefcovic, Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Union, said.

His comments were aimed at the period after which the contract between Naftogaz and Russia’s Gazprom on gas transit is due to expire in 2019.
