KYIV, April 6 – The European Parliament would like to see progress by Ukraine in fighting corruption and implementing judicial reform before disbursing EUR 1 billion in the EU macro-financial assistance, a senior official said Friday.
Laima Andrikiene, the head of the delegation of the European Parliament's foreign affairs committee, was in Ukraine to assess the progress.
The most important area in which the EU expects progress from Ukraine is the fight against corruption. In this sphere, the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court, which would correspond to the recommendations of the Venice Commission, is a priority for us ... Fighting corruption is the way to open doors for foreign investors who need a reliable business environment, Andrikiene said.
