VILNIUS, June 22 – Lithuanian Energy Minister Rokas Masiulis has said that Belarus has refused to discuss gas transit to Ukraine, possibly due to political reasons.
The minister expressed his hope that it will be possible to arrange the issue with Minsk and that gas from the Klaipeda LNG terminal will eventually arrive in Ukraine.
"We asked Belarus's transmission system operator to let our gas through. The system is operated by Gazprom. We received a negative reply, that it's impossible to transport the gas. The operator did not explain the reasons [why]. Maybe, these are political reasons, as there are no technical obstacles for trading with gas," Masiulis told BNS agency.
