KIEV, May 22 – Parliament has supported at first reading a draft law which exempts vehicles with electric engines from paying value added tax and excise duty until 2020.

A total of 245 lawmakers supported draft law No. 1912 on Thursday.

The authors of the document said that its goal is to create preconditions to cut the cost of electric cars in Ukraine and to increase their popularity in the country. They said that the cost of electric cars will fall by at least 20% (20% VAT and the excise duty of EUR 109 per car), and taking into account the cost of driving electric cars, owners could save UAH 4,000-6,000 a month.
