Prez suggests compromise to end crisis
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Jan. 23 – President Viktor Yushchenko urged Parliament on Monday to let judges assume their duties at the Constitutional Court and assured lawmakers he will not seek to immediately cancel controversial amendments to the constitution.

Powerful opposition groups have been blocking for months appointment of the judges amid fears that Yushchenko would seek revoking the amendments that from Jan. 1 had shifted many powers from the president to Parliament.
