KIEV, Jan. 19 ??“ The standoff between President Viktor Yushchenko and Parliament worsened on Thursday after powerful opposition groups had pledged to continue their efforts of blocking appointment of judges for the Constitutional Court.

Yushchenko has been seeking the appointments to the court in order to appeal a controversial no-confidence vote in the government that had been approved by opposition groups on Jan. 10.
