Ukraine may raise Black Sea Fleet rent in retaliation for gas hikes
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Dec. 20 – In an apparent tit-for-tat response to Russia’s demand for higher gas payments, President Viktor Yushchenko said Tuesday Ukraine will seek to amend its 20-year agreement with Russia by seeking higher rent payments from for stationing Russian Black Sea Naval Fleet in Sevastopol through 2017.

"We are coming to an understanding that all our economic relations must be in accordance with world, European standards," Yushchenko told a news conference.
