KIEV, Sept. 29 - Leaders of two nationalist parties Thursday called on their followers to back President Viktor Yushchenko after opinion polls indicated the president had been losing ground since the recent government crisis.

NRU, or the People's Movement of Ukraine, and UNP, or the Ukrainian People's Party, which have strong positions in western Ukraine, pledged to support Yushchenko to stop an increasing split.
