KIEV, June 21 – Russia asked Ukraine to ship extra amounts of natural gas via its gas pipeline system to Europe after a debt dispute with Belarus had escalated, threatening supply disruptions.

Gazprom, in a special letter to Naftogaz Ukrayiny, asked for additional supply routes of its gas to Europe talks with Belarus over gas debts failed to resolve the problem, according to a Naftogaz official.
